Mega Piranha Review

This film is my first experience of the "quality" of the films made by The Asylum, makers os Transmorphers, Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus and most recently Battle of Los Angeles. I have to say this right now, Mega Piranha is one of the worst films I have ever seen, so bad that I gladly watched 15 minutes of advertisements just so that I couldn't keep watching the film (before you ask I didn't change the channel as I wanted to get a full impression of Mega Piranha in one sitting, I regret it now). Click on the jump to read my full thoughts on the film.
First of all the plot is terrible, the "characters" are blatant stereotypes and do not act like ordinary human beings and the reason for the giant piranhas is so cliched (scientists messing with nature) that if I had a pound for every time I'd seen it I would be a millionaire. It has the worst CGI that I have ever seen, with special mention to the helicopters. Stock footage is used so often and so pointlessly that I was actually angry with the film, one of 3 films to make me angry, the other 2 being Batman and Robin and The Waterboy. The scenes at night are so dark that half the time I couldn't see what was going on, even with the brightness turned all the way up. The subtitles are filled with errors (typos, words being repeated and even a point where the subtitles come up in Spanish halfway through the English translation). The plotholes in the film are so big that you could fly 2 airplanes, side by side, through them (the characters escaping from a car with a full army on top of them without being spotted being the most rage inducing). Some of the set-pieces with the CGI piranhas are so bad that I was in fits of laughter while the CGI set-pieces with the helicopters are just painful to watch and finally, Mega Piranha commits the worst crime a film can make, repeating footage. In conclusion Mega Piranha is a terribly acted, terribly directed, terribly edited and terribly scripted film with the worst CGI I have ever seen. A rare film that has made me legitimately angry, this is one of the worst films I have ever seen, avoid like the plague.
My Rating: 0/5
