Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa Trailer

Whenever a comedy TV show from the UK gets adapted for a film one of two things happens. It can either be regarded as a comedy classic (see In The Loop) or an absolute disaster which could be regarded as one of the worst films ever made (see Keith Lemon: The Film). The next character to make the leap to the big screen is Steve Coogan's Alan Partridge, and I'm really looking forward to it.
This looks like a film that gets what is so good about Alan Partridge, his insane ramblings. His talk about the title for the film bring to mind the famous scene when he pitches TV shows to the BBC based on their title alone (e.g. Monkey Tennis, Inner City Sumo, Arm Wresting with Chas and Dave and Cooking in Prison, which has actually been made with Gordon Ramsay).

It also helps the film that Alan Partridge is one of the best TV characters invented. He's a selfish, egotistical bigot who gets really annoyed when things don't go exactly his way and his rants are stuff of legend. I now cannot watch The Spy Who Loved Me without thinking of his description of the film and I hope more stuff like this is seen in the film.

So yeah, I'm really looking forward to this and between this and The Look of Love it really looks to be a great year for Steve Coogan.
